Zombies have been a staple in gaming for decades.
From the birth of survival horror with Resident Evil in 1996, to killing hordes of Nazi zombies in Call of Duty: World at War in 2008, from the chaos of Left 4 Dead, to the ground-breaking masterpiece that is the Last of Us, and most recently the much anticipated Resident Evil 4 remake: the march of the undead in gaming is relentless.
Now, Undead Blocks is bringing zombies to web3 gaming as its first multiplayer zombie survival game. “The first iteration of zombie mode in Call of Duty lasted 10 years, had 27 maps and reached over 45 million players,” says Grant Hasely, executive director at Undead Blocks. “We’re looking to tap into a generation of zombie lovers who want to truly own their assets in the video game titles that they enjoy.”

Fight Off Waves of Zombies
Undead Blocks is bringing back the nostalgia of the zombie shooters we all know and love and upgrading it with the web3 gaming secret sauce of true digital ownership. Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, players defend themselves against endless waves of the undead using weapons that double as NFTs.
Players can choose from a selection of weapons, ranging from melee weapons to long-range rifles, to battle hordes of zombies. There are four different game modes: Solo, Squads, Speedrun, and Massacre, each with unique rule sets and both regular and play-to-earn variants:
- Solo: survive as many waves as possible on your own
- Squads: round up your friends and play with party size of 2-4 players and work together to kill zombies
- Speedrun: players will have to complete a set number of waves as fast as they can
- Massacre: kiill as many zombies as possible in a set amount of time.
Players are dropped into each match with a weapon and a knife. Every map has its own unique aspects and this challenges players to use different strategies and weapons. The weapons that the players have unlocked can be accessed from different places on the map.
During Squads mode matches, players will be able to invite their friends to join the same match and take down zombies together. There’s also microphone support, so players are able to communicate with their team about strategy and decision making in real time.
In all game modes, the objective is to kill as many zombies as possible, and every zombie killed has a chance to drop loot boxes containing a random amount of ZBUX and Gold ZBUX.
Truly Own & Upgrade Your Weapons
It’s no secret that the gaming skins market is enormous. And yet, in most of these games players don’t truly own their in-game assets, ending up with untradeable items. “Imagine not being able to resell your concert tickets, furniture, vehicles, the list goes on and on,” Haseley points out. “Web3 games solve this by empowering the players to determine what retains value and what does not.”
Undead Blocks enables players to truly own their weapons and skins as NFTs. The game also incentivizes players to keep investing in their weapons through rewarding gameplay with their in-game token ZBUX, which can be used to upgrade weapons, trade for new weapons, or to obtain loot boxes holding in-game items.
Undead Blocks is Building on Immutable
Undead Blocks is part of the exploding Immutable gaming ecosystem, with more than 150 games and counting calling Immutable their home. “It was a no brainer for us,” Haseley explains about their decision to build on Immutable. “After discussions with other platforms, it was apparent that only Immutable prioritized gameplay above all else. This was crucial for us.”

“Also, having access to the Immutable Global Orderbook instantly propels our weapons and skins NFTs to every marketplace in their network,” the Undead Blocks executive stated.
What’s next
Undead Blocks just released their Skins Rarity Booster. In the near future players can expect more zombies, zombie bosses, power ups and power downs.
And the popularity of Undead Blocks is on the rise, with the game boasting over 64K unique players in the last 3 months, with 1,500 daily active players. The last tournament had almost 6K participants. The first in-person zombie slaying fest in Nashville brought together over 300 Undead Blocks fans, with similar events planned in the coming months.
